A couple of years ago, I re-learned how to sew. If you are a costumer, sewing is a talent which is really hard and expensive to NOT to have.
In Jr. High and High School, I took home economics classes, but after like a 7 year hiatus from it, I'd forgotten most of the important parts. A friend of mine gave me a refresher course as well as some tips that I never learned in home ec. My only reason for learning was to make costumes! Thank the maker that Simplicity and the other companies have shaped up and actually created QUALITY costumes in their pattern line. I started off simple and have moved onto more complex designs.
The only problem is that due to my "still learning" stage, the good can also be the bad. Yes they have some cool patterns but if it's not historically accurate, I can't really do anything about it. I also don't spend hours upon hours researching their accuracy. So if I have any historical costume nazi's out there looking at this page, you'll have to grin and live with it. =D
