Contrary to what you might think - or to how history normally went, there were indeed women pirates. Only 2. Mary Reed and Anne Bonny.

Neither of them were sissy's either - one being a cross dresser for most of her life (so that she could actually have a life in those times with no father) and the other just being a bad girl who fell in love with bad boys. Both earned respect on their ships and even ended up serving together.

They were eventually captured of course. But irony has it that they got away and no one knows what happened to them after that point.

Vaderpainter wanted the stereotypical black and red for his pirate so I made mine to match. They were eventually dubbed the "Hollywood Pirates" since they were so flamboyant and cliche. While we got a lot of fun and use out of them, because of their cliche-ness, both outfits were retired. We have moved on to make more realistic looking pirate costumes and continue to have fun.

Construction Details: The bodice is made of red and black satin and black lace. It has over 70 grommets in it, hand stitched beads, silver trim and metal boning. The red beads represent blood drops, since they are in the shape tear drops. I felt this would be a nasty twist to an otherwise feminine costume. I also added things to it such as a sword, knife, cupPhoto by Russell P. Miller and pouch. The boots are leather.
