Ok so what the hell is this?
Dave School (Digital Animation & Visual Effects School) is a cool special effects school based out of Universal Studios Orlando Florida. Because they like to keep their students on top of all the current tricks out on the market, they asked me, Vaderpainter, Darryl and Stephanie to come out and help them create something that their students could work with. Gladly we obliged and were treated to a very cool experience. I'm not posting this to brag or anything, it is just one of those "once in a life time chances" that odds are, will probably never happen again. I'm really excited I had this opportunity.
So the cool stuff that happened: Not only did we get to work with makeup artists, stunt coordinators and special effects professionals, but we also got to learn a bit about how the filming a green screen scene process works! I am very grateful for that knowledge, and I have new respect for people who work in this industry.
In summary, after makeup and dressing up, we had about 1/2hr to learn a sword play scene, and then we had to do it over, and over and over and over again for the filming process. We went from different angles and heights, to just hanging around while they measured stuff out. It was a very long process but well worth the trip down. I definitely had a LOT of fun! Thank you Dave's School and all the people involved with making this project.
Some of these pictures came out blurry, but I'd also like to extend my thanks to Darryl and his girlfriend Stephanie for taking these photos!! Without their help, I would have had NONE.
UPDATE: The students have completed their work on the commercial short. As of August 8th 2002, the commercial is playing in Florida (Orlando Area). By the middle of August 2002, it should be playing nationally on TECH-TV. Be sure to watch for it! If you are wondering where that is:
Cable Television: Check the state-by-state
listing of cable affiliates.
DirecTV: If you're a DirecTV
customer, you can find TechTV on channel 354.
Dish Network: If you're a Dish
Network customer, you can watch TechTV on channel 191.
C-band: If you have a C-band satellite dish, look for TechTV on GE
Americom Satcom C4, transponder 12, 135 degrees west, 40 degrees elevation.
If you don't get these channels, I have included copies of the video on this page. Later this year, I should get a copy of the "secret" video's that will not be shown on TV. This is the project video that the students work on for experience and learning. Once I get it, I will post another update.
If you can't get any of the channels listed above...here clips of the commercial. The shorter one is just my spot and the longer is the entire commercial. (you will need the proper Codec to view it, please visit http://www.divx.com ) If you have trouble viewing it, then with your mouse, right click and choose "SAVE TARGET AS" and then view it once you have downloaded the video.
