Atlanta Unites (Sept 29, 2001) was a nationally broadcast show, in Atlanta Centennial Olympic Park, put on by all the radio and TV stations in Atlanta, in order to raise funds for the NYC crisis. Famous bands such as Sean Mullins, Edwin McCain, Arrested Development and Sister Hazel were there to entertain, as well as other singers and groups. The show ended with several patriotic songs and fireworks over the sky scrapers.
There were many other things going on, including an appearance by the GA501st garrison. We were literally mobbed by people at times, asking for autographs and pictures. Some of the people were plain RUDE and annoying, (but what can you expect from a free event?) But 90% of the people were really nice and we even made it on the Radio, National TV and were interviewed by the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Our group had a lot of fun volunteering, and Atlanta Unites was good about providing food and drinks for us.
Security was really tight and we couldn't even bring our own blasters in. Luckily, this also meant that the mob of a crowd got told off by cops a couple times for being impolite. Over all, this was not a negative experience though, and we had a really great time!! The fireworks were great! |
