Toys for Tots (http://www.toysfortots.org/)is a non-profit charity organization in the United States which collects toys for needy children at Christmas time. Although it is not totally run by the US Marines, they have a huge role in going out to stores and events to collect donations. Its hard to miss their shiny uniforms and proud faces.
However, media and celebrities also get involved in the collection, like Magic Johnson and the Rosie O'Donnell Show! This year, the Georgia 501st Stormtrooper Garrison and their friends from the Klingon Assault Group (KAG) pitched in to help also. We at the 501st were honored to donate our time in costume to encourage people at local Georgia ToysRUs's to donate.
We helped the Marines on the weekends for approx 3 weeks. By Christmas the efforts of our groups allowed us to collect over 15 Million toys at the stores we attended -- which went out to over 500,000 kids!!!!! Georgia was the top state in the country, even beating out the Rosie O'Donnell show in California! Way to go! We have promised the Marines that we would gladly help again next year.
