Arashi Do Karate Tournament

Where: Rundle College Gym Calgary Alberta Canada

When: April 1, 2000

What: About 300 competitors or more showed up for this martial arts tournament

I was a little bit less nervous for this one but still....

  Lining up for kata competition.

Heian Nidan is a Kata, meaning "peaceful mind two"

It sucks when 2 of the judges are from your school. If you mess up, THEY KNOW.

If it were anyone else, you could mess up and act like it didn't happen. Nobody knows and you might end up with 1st place. (Been there did that - I got second)

It's not the prettiest kata but it serves well. I mean gee, I only knew like 2 katas at the time.

The final move. I didn't screw it up either and my sensei's were fair, they weren't partial.

Bowing respectfully after I got 1st place.

Sparring tournament. This is the nerve wracking stuff. You never know how good or bad your competitor is.

I could have been doing a roundhouse kick, but it looks like I'm just finishing off a hook kick by the angle that I'm falling...however, I didn't fall....just looks like I'm setting it down after leaning so far

Wow I really set that one up it seems. I'm guessing I psyched her out with a fake punch and went in for a kick to the side.

Ok I didn't win, I got second place. The girl who beat me was such a sweetie too, I've seen her in other tournaments and we say hi! The joke is that she wants to some day beat me at Kata and I will beat her at sparring LOL

This is what I love about karate tournaments (in Canada at least). Even if you go and you are competiting to win, the people are wonderfully nice and for the most part no one is stuck up. I'm sure there are a few but all the people I have met have been absolutely cool.
